Charlie...You're On Your Own

So what was it? The fact that he was mad over not getting a fair starting opportunity or the fact that he couldn't get along with Maurice Carthon. The answer seems to be the latter (combined with the fact that he's now decided to finish his career close to home) as Trent Dilfer is packing his bags for San Francisco right now in a trade that weakened the Browns QB structure as they acquired weak QB Ken Dorsey and a 7th rounder in the process. Dilfer was no stud at QB, but he was valuable to the growth and development of young Charlie Frye as a starter. Dilfer has been praised for that in Seattle when he was there for Matt Hasselbeck as Matt was learning the ropes.

In truth, the Browns now have a handful of #3 QBs behind Frye and he doesn't have the good guy to teach him like Dilfer. Dilfer was always better at giving advice than he was playing so Dilfer was much more valuable to this team than people think. Now, the Browns will have to trot out weak armed Dorsey in case something happens to Frye. And what possible advice does Dorsey have for Frye right now? The only thing I can think about is how to get thrown around like a rag doll in a championship game. Dorsey essentially became the backup for the Niners last year after they dealt Tim Rattay to Tampa Bay. Dorsey's Niners were 1-2 in games he played and he threw 2 TDs and 2 INTs last year. He finished 2006 with a poopy 66 QB rating.

The Browns need two things to happen right now: 1) Frye needs to be good from here on out. 2) Frye needs to be healthy from here on out.
